THE VISIT

Finally,an experience that unites the best of the old town of Santiago de Compostela. On this guided tour, you’ll be able to explore Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, the Cathedral Museum and, if you wish, the world-famous Portico of Glory, accompanied by commentary from a professional guide accredited by the Regional Government of Galicia.

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

It is a magnificent Catholic church in the city of Santiago de Compostela. It is considered one of the most important places of pilgrimage on the planet and is the final destination of the famous Camino de Santiago.

The cathedral dates back to the 11th century and features a mixture of architectural styles due to the numerous extensions and alterations it has undergone. Highlights include its baroque façade, the clock tower, the Puerta del Perdón and the Portico de la Gloria.

Cathedral Museum of Santiago de Compostela

It is a museum located in the same square of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This is a must-see for lovers of art and liturgical objects of great historical and religious significance, such as paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and other items linked to the history of the cathedral and the Way of St James.

Among his most outstanding works are the Codex Calixtino, a 12th-century manuscript considered a jewel of medieval literature.

The Portico of Glory (optional)

A masterpiece of Romanesque art made by master Mateo at the end of the 12th century. It is located on the western façade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in northwestern Spain. It is still regarded today as one of the most important examples of medieval European art.

It consists of three arches decorated with more than 200 sculptures representing figures from the Bible and allegories of human life. At the centre of it all stands the figure of Christ, surrounded by his Apostles and various figures from the Old and New Testaments.

It is known worldwide for its beauty and allegorical character, which invites the viewer to reflect on the meaning of life and death. It is worth noting that a visit to the Pórtico de la Gloria is optional and is available to those who wish to explore this wonderful work of art in greater depth.
